Ag Appreciation Night

The Weyburn Chamber of Commerce is proud to host our annual Ag Appreciation Night — a celebration of the hardworking farmers and ranchers who strengthen our community.

This year’s guest speaker is Mark Custance, who, along with his wife Kendra and their five children, operates Real Greens — a hydroponic vertical farm in southwest Manitoba producing fresh greens year-round. Their innovative approach blends modern technology with agricultural tradition, helping to build resilient communities, create rural jobs, and strengthen local food security.

At Ag Appreciation Night, Mark will share insights from their first year in operation and discuss the opportunities this model brings for the future of agriculture.

October Member Spotlight
Weyburn Group Home Society Celebrates 50 Years!

WGHS began in March of 1975 under the incorporated name The Society of the Independence of Handicapped Persons in the Community. The agency was created through the vision of Dr. Alex Weinberger, who gathered a volunteer group of directors that not only led but also ran the programs themselves. In 1982, the organization became known as the Weyburn Group Home Society and has since grown from one group home to seven licensed group homes throughout Weyburn.

Today, WGHS provides supports to 74 individuals in their programs, with growth continuing each year. In 2016, they proudly opened Dominic’s Place, a SHA-funded Recovery Treatment Model featuring 14 suites. In addition, their Mental Health Coordinator provides individualized support to four individuals living independently in the community.

Beyond the direct supports, WGHS is also a major local employer, with 117 dedicated staff members working to provide care, advocacy, and opportunities for the individuals they serve.

For five decades, the Weyburn Group Home Society has enriched the lives of countless individuals and strengthened the fabric of our community. This milestone stands as a true testament to their vision, dedication, and leadership.

On behalf of the Chamber and our members, we thank the Weyburn Group Home Society for 50 years of service and leadership. We look forward to seeing the continued positive difference you will make in the decades to come.
